I am playing around in my mind with the idea of buying some land and
building a home from scratch.  I'm very handy and I have developing a
few commercial products for home owners.  Just wondering which would
be the best book or resource for one wanting to build a home from
scratch.

thanks.

you might try to find the bible on this.
Ken Kern's  "The Owner Builder and the Code" out of print but you can

You might also read the thread here about spacing trips to town in
addition to the building codes Ann suggested.
Try the alt.energy.homepower group and the alt.home.repair.group

There might be some info there about building in the country.  Think
about how you're going to heat and cool the place.

Build it out of a mix of clay, sand, straw. It's called a "cob" house.

Warm in winter and cool in summer.

Google "cob homes".
