I now have tile floor in my bathroom that is in very good condition but am
tired of it and I want something different.
Can I put new tile over the old tile or is it a must that the old tile be
removed first

yes you can install tile over tile if it is in sound condition.
but
can the floor take the added weight?
and how high are the adjoining room(s) floor heights?

If it were me
I would rip out the old and install the new!
