Does anyone have information on creating a linear recess in the ceiling
to substitute for the plastic baffle that you see on the edge of a
ceiling at those atrium spaces?

Why don't you look at the manufacturer's product literature published in the
McGraw Hill's Sweet's General Building File? Many have dumped  McGraw Hill
and their $25,000 annual fee to be published in the Sweet's files but they
may still be helpful and at least should be reviewed. Most architectural
firms will have a copy of the general building files.
