Your expert opinion is invited:

My neighbour is asking if he can put fiberglass around newly-installed
insulated chimney as it penetrates the ceiling (attic) insulation.

The manufacturer specifies there be kept a 2" clearance from combustibles.

Specs: 7" (I.D.) stainless steel insulated chimney for a wood / oil furnace
(in basement).
Maker: Security Chimneys International Ltd., Laval, Quebec

Pipe sections labelled "Project Nova-Temp HT6000+5"@10"chem"

Please comment,

Thanks,   Jack.

A metal ring around the pipe would be a much safer way of closing the space
between the pipe and the ceiling.
They sell them or you could make one yourself.
All you need is a piece round of sheetmetal 16" or so in diameter with a
hole in it, big enough for the pipe to go through.

They make a special insulation for firestopping. I've always called them
"fire batts",  I think they are nade of mineral wool. The brand I use is
Thermafiber. Don't use fiberglass, it is not a good (or acceptable) fire
stop.

Yes.. rock wool, mineral wool will work fine. I use it to close all gaps in
utility chase between floors. This stuff is itch city, wear long selves for
skin protection and a good respirator.

I installed an "attic insulation shield". See following links...
