It probably works great for the exact situation it was designed for but
people will apply it incorrectly or to the wrong spot or to solve the wrong
problem and then blame it on the product.

Its just a type of bridged brace. Nothing more, nothing less.
This type of bridged brace can be made from scrap 2x4 lumber and 3/4"
plywood which would perform structurally much better at a lower cost. IMO
the product would most likely not function as advertised which is why the
vendor does not show the product's load bearing surface in cross-section.
