My water heater requires an expansion tank.I just installed it.It was
supposed to pre set at 40 psi but when I checked it it was 50 psi. What
should it be set at.? We have a community well that has a pressure of 95/100
psi I have installed a pressure valve and have it set at 45psi The heater is
a 50 gallon propane power vented.

You dont have to set it... it is simply a tank with a bladder
in it with air on one side, your system pressure compresses
that to whatever pressure is on the water side... its  a
natural balance.

It was 'set' at the factory for 40 psi as an average starting
charge of air is all..not relevant to the operation of the
system (your city water pressure fluxuates and you system
pressure fluxuates even more such as when you flush the loo
etc.
