I live in New England where as times it gets very humid but the
temperature is not very high. When I added central air I also added
an Aprilaire 1700 whole house dehumidifier. The contractor said that
the units would run independently of each other so I could run the AC
or the de humidifier or both.
The contractor installed an Aprilaire Mod 70 Humidistat, and installed
the 1700 across the air handler in the attic.
My questions: It seem that the Humidistat when calling for the
dehumidifier to run does not run the air handler fan. Since the 1700
was installed in parallel with the air handler it seems to me that
the 1700 is just circulating air through the air handler and not the
house.
Should the air handler be running when the dehumidifier is running to
move the dryer air through the house and if so how can this be done?

Yes the fan must run... its wired wrong is all... not much of
a problem to fix.

The 1700 does not support a way to run the air handler when it runs.
Is there another device that is used.??
Thanks for the advice.

Does the 1700 stand alone? if it does it should have a small
fan in it. if its built into the ducts a relay is used to
energize the furnace fan whenever the dehumid is on. 8
bucks. single pole single throw, with coil voltage to to
match dehumidifiers contactor coil...wired in parallel.
