Getting right to the point, here is the situation.. I live in South
Florida and had my roof damaged by the couple of hurricanes.. I had a
couple of leaks, that I have managed to keep under control, but I do
need to re-shingle. Initially, I figured that the insurance company
would not give me any $ due to my 5% deductible, but as it turned out,
they gave me 5K, which will cover the materials, that I recently
purchased. The original intent was to do it myself, but I realized
that due to the new codes, I have to re nail all the plywood to meet
the new nail spacing standards. This threw a wrench into my plans
because of the time that would be involved, causing a race against the
weather, not to mention the exhaustion on my behalf. Does anyone have
any suggestions or could recommend any technical that would allow me
to do a partial, little at a time job? My main concern is a way to do
a partial felt install with the proper bridging that would allow me to
complete the task while being able to keep out the weather. I have a
couple ideas, but figured that someone out there has had a similar
situation Any suggestions would be appreciated. An experienced roofer
offered to help me at a cost of 4K (it would be for his labor with me
also helping) . This seemed a little out of line due to the fact that
it would be just him and I. The roofing job is around 43 squares.

Thanks, ChuckB

After the old roofing material is torn off, adding more fasteners,
particularly if you use an air gun, to the decking is not overly time or
labor consuming.

Considering the size of that roof, it probably is already divided into
various sections. Certainly, you can do one part at a time.

How much did you pay for what materials?

about 4,200.00 for coil nails, 40 yr laminated shingles, tins, 30lb
felt, drip edge, sealant, nail gun, hoses and i still need to rent a
dumpster, buy valley flashing.  i did find a nail gun today that i can
borrow for the plywood.
