I have an old one with terms collected throughout the entire South American theater. Somehow I always thought it would make a good resource from which to create a derived work that ran on a "superintendent's" laptop, PDA or on a SmartPhone. There is a difference in accent, about the same as between a person from New Jersey and someone from Atlanta. There are differences in slang or informal usage, but that is true everywhere. That's info not available on the written page. TB That's a good idea and is likely the only reasonable way to even use the content 'in the field' where Internet access is not likely to be available. How about an iPod though? Half kidding but maybe a better solution as they are smaller, more portable, and can be loaded with what is explicitly needed from a website where an entire collection of content would be available thereby making it much easier and presumably less expensive to collect and distribute the actual content itself. For example, the website could hold collections unique to specific activities such as putting up sheetrock or painting and so on. Developing and distributing CD is costly plus there has to be a playback application that gets loaded on the laptop or other computing device. Just thinking of this on the spur of the moment suggests the iPod eliminates the cost factors imposed by CD media but at what tradeoff? The audio track can be set to playback with various tone of voice settings: angry, damn angry and listen up dumb @ss if you don't get that truck empty by 4:00 none of us can go home early.
