I love ceramic floor tile but hate the problem of  cleaning the grout.
I have noticed the grout used   with the tiles in shopping malls seems
to be smooth,  almost like a tar appearance.  The grout is always  a
dark color.  Am I seeing things, or is this a very fine textured grout.
I would think this would be easier to maintain if it is as smooth as it
looks.   Lorena

My guess would be that they have put a sealer over the entire surface.

The type of grout used is determined by the size of the joint. Typically,
most stone tile uses a 1/8th" or less joint and you can get away with an
unsanded grout. Bigger than 1/8th" need an aglomerate added to prevent
shrinkage and cracking.

Aglomerate?  Do you mean aggregate?

It's possible that you're looking at an epoxy grout in a mall.  Great stuff,
but more difficult to work with and not for beginners.  Epoxy grout is
basically impervious to everything and the easiest to keep clean.

Yes, silly me... :-)

I thought Rico was referring to the well known preventative
prescribed for conditions at greater than 1/8" above ground
level.
