Why is Trex more expensive than Wood?

why is Corian (plastic) more expensive than formica, arborite, laminate in
general ? but then, why is my truck more expensive than my plastic deck
chair ?

Why is pottery more expensive than Georgia or Ohio dirt  and
a little water?

That aside, just wait a few more years.  In not too many
more years, the way things are going, Trex and its ilk won't
be more expensive, even in the short run.  Even now, it is
often considerably more cost effective than wood for many
applications.
