How to remove or mitigate toilet bowl scratching.

Do not use a wire coat hanger to get at a wad of paper in the toilet
because it could scratch the white toilet bowl a bit. But if, for
example a houseguest did it, what might be tried to mitigate or remove
the scratches down in the toilet bowl below the water line?...

An abrasive cleaner like Comet?
