A new version of the residential cabling standard (ANSI/TIA-570-B) has
just been published. It calls for (6) x 16AWG or thicker conductors plus
(1) x CAT5E cable between the audio amplifier and the distribution device
(DD); (4) x 16AWG or thicker plus (1) CAT5E between the amplifiers and
the zone keypads/volume controls; (2) x 16AWG or thicker between the
keypads and each of the speakers. That should take care of left/right
channel audio, remote low voltage power and signal (such as IR control)
distribution
